Sarvdeep Basur: 适度用光

  Sarvdeep Basur, during his long career, first as head of lighting design in Phillips (Asia Pacific Region) and then as head of Lucent has won many awards for landmark lighting projects like the Opera House in Sydney, The Armani Hotel in Dubai and Heritage monuments in Delhi. In China he is the principal designer for many on-going prestigious projects.

  Sarvdeep has been regularly leading seminars on lighting design for architects, interior designers and students in India, China, and Africa, which have been well received by their respective communities. Sarvdeep came to Guangzhou for a salon in December, 2014. After that, he talked about his design philosophy and experience in the interview with Alighting Magazine.

  在其一生的事业中,从飞利浦(亚太地区)首席灯光设计师到Lucent的主负责人,Sarvdeep赢得过无数的荣誉。他曾领导设计过多个具划时代意义灯光项目,如悉尼歌剧院、迪拜阿玛尼酒店和德里历史遗址。在中国,他是许多正在修建中的知名项目的主要设计师。

  Sarvdeep也会定期举办灯光设计的研讨会,主要面向建筑师、室内设计师和设计专业学生,辐射印度、中国及非洲地区,广受好评。2014年12月,Sarvdeep来穗参加活动,随后也接受了《阿拉丁》的采访,跟我们分享了他的设计理念和设计经验。

  Alighting: How do you define yourself as a lighting designer?

  《阿拉丁》:作为一位灯光设计师,您如何定义自己?

  Sarvdeep: I believe in celebrating night. For me, night is for recreation, relaxation, romance and quality family time and it is light that sets the right mood. As a lighting designer I serve by creating the mood.

  Sarvdeep:我热衷于赞美夜晚。对我来说,夜晚意味着消遣、放松、浪漫和高质量的家庭时光,正是灯光为夜晚营造了恰当的氛围。作为一名灯光设计师,我的使命就是用灯光来营造氛围。

  Alighting: What do you think is the most important factor in lighting design?

  《阿拉丁》:在您看来,灯光设计中最重要的因素是什么?

  Sarvdeep: Understanding people’s psychological response to various lighting scenarios and knowing how to achieve the right scenario with light is lighting design.

  Sarvdeep:灯光设计就是要了解人对不同灯光情景有什么样的心理反应,并知道怎么通过灯光来营造适合的灯光场景。

  Alighting: What is your design philosophy?

  《阿拉丁》:您的设计理念是什么?

  Sarvdeep: The right not more light can make any space, any feature attractive and beautiful.

  Sarvdeep:用正确而不是多的灯光使任意空间、任意主题更加漂亮更加吸引人。

  Alighting: You have clients from different countries. How to meet the cultural needs of different countries?

  《阿拉丁》:您的客户来自全球不同的国家,您是怎么满足他们不同的文化需求的?

  Sarvdeep: I spend a lot of time understanding the project needs and interacting with the right people.

  Sarvdeep:我会花很多的时间去弄清楚项目的需求,并跟合适的人交流。

  Alighting: How do you think the lighting profession in India? How do you think about the Chinese lighting design?

  《阿拉丁》:您怎么看待印度的灯光设计职业?中国的灯光设计呢?

  Sarvdeep: Lighting design in India and China is going through the similar phases, these are exciting times as we are learning that more light is not always the best solution and understanding that darkness is also part of lighting design. I am impressed by the way young lighting designers are using the modern tools and experimenting to produce great results.

  Sarvdeep:灯光设计在印度和中国都正在经历相似的阶段。这是令人兴奋的时代,因为我们开始认识到越来越亮并不总是最好的解决方案,也渐渐明白,黑暗也应该是灯光设计的一部分。让我很受触动的是,年轻灯光设计师们正在尝试运用现代的工具和实验性的方式,创造出不同凡响的成果。

  Alighting: What impresses you most while working for Chinese clients? What’s the difference from the other clients?

  《阿拉丁》:中国客户给您最深的印象是什么?与其他国家或地区的客户有什么不一样?

  Sarvdeep: I shall be honest, initially it was a little tough to understand each other and the language barrier did not help, but now after 5 years I am happy to work here and I have made great friends through mutual appreciation.

  Sarvdeep:我必须诚实地说,最开始的时候因为语言障碍,相互理解都有点困难。但五年之后,我很为自己在这儿工作感到高兴,也交到了一些相互欣赏的好朋友。

  Alighting: You have done lighting design for great architectures of different types. What do you think is the biggest difference between them?

  《阿拉丁》:您为不同类型的著名建筑做过灯光设计,在您看来,它们之间最大的不同点在于什么?

  Sarvdeep: This is a very difficult question to answer as architecture varies in so many ways in size, shape, utility, culture, etc. I think the biggest difference is the mind behind that particular structure.

  Sarvdeep:这个不好说,因为不同建筑在规模、外形、功能、文化背景等方面都有所不同。我认为最大的不同在于特定建筑背后所蕴含的思维过程。

  Alighting: How to balance the functionality and aesthetics in lighting design?

  《阿拉丁》:灯光设计如何平衡功能和美学的要求?

  Sarvdeep: Functionality is science and aesthetics is art and balancing them is design for me. If adequate thought is given to both art and science, human mind is smart enough to create the right blend.

  Sarvdeep:功能是科学性的,美学是艺术性的。平衡两者的关系就是我的设计。如果能对艺术性和科学性都给予充分的考量,聪明如人类,必会找到完美的结合点。

  Alighting: What attract you the most? Is it the process of design or the sense of achievement after a work finished, or anything else?

  《阿拉丁》:什么最吸引您?是设计的过程还是设计完成后的成就感?或者其他?

  Sarvdeep: Both equally, when I start designing a project I have already conceived the result in my mind.

  Sarvdeep:两者都有。当我开始设计一个项目的时候,我已经在脑子里联想到它完成时候的情景了。

  Alighting: Did you do the lighting design for your own house? How is it like?

  《阿拉丁》:您有为自己的房子做灯光设计吗?是什么样子的?

  Sarvdeep: Yes, the lighting of my house is blend of art and science and is just adequate; however the landscape is more dependent on natural moonlight which is not my work.

  Sarvdeep:有。我家房子的灯光融合了艺术和科学,而且是很适度的。然而户外景观部分,其实更加依赖于自然月光的妆点,这就不在我的工作范围里了。

  Alighting: What’s your favorite project? Could you share with us?

  《阿拉丁》:您最喜欢自己的哪个项目?可以跟我们分享一下吗?

  Sarvdeep: This is your most difficult question, can a parent choose a favorite amongst his children? It would be impossible for me to answer this one. We are doing about 120 projects at this time, The Golden Temple in Amritsar (India) is most of my time, hence the most attention these days.

  Sarvdeep:这个问题最难回答了,就好像要让父母选择他们最喜爱的孩子一样,可能选得出来吗?至少对我来说不可以。目前我们正在进行的项目有120个左右,但花费时间最多的是印度阿姆利则金庙,这也是现在的重点项目。
