　　Myeongdong Catholic Cathedral is very famous and popular spot for Koreans. In comparison with well-known cathedrals overseas, it is no way inferior to them and one of the beautiful and sacred cathedrals in Korea. It stands very magnificently during the day, but looks very humble during the night because of the lack of adequate light. That is the moment the cathedral needs lighting design during the night. So, Kim Kang woon got to map the lighting design out for Myeondong Catholic Cathedral to improve night environment.

　　明洞天主圣堂是韩国的著名景点，也是韩国最美最神圣的教堂之一，毫不逊色于国际上其他有名的教堂。白天，建筑非常壮观，但夜晚因为缺少灯光而显得过于平淡。于是管理处请来金康云为教堂做灯光设计，提升其夜景氛围。

　　The project of Myeongdong Catholic Cathedral was focused to enhance the value of history by highlighting the light shadow in the building design which is harmony with sky and human. Plus, it was focused on designing as a consolatory place with the social value over the religious meaning.

　　该项目的重点是要通过光影效果凸显出建筑的历史价值，同时保持建筑体与夜空、与人的和谐。不仅如此，灯光设计还力求体现教堂的社会价值而不仅仅是宗教意味。

　　Myeongdong Catholic Cathedral is composed of two colors of bricks. : Red bricks which convey warmth of the cathedral and gray-black bricks which show the distinct shape of the building. These two bricks harmonize and this kind of harmony makes it possible for this cathedral to have a three-dimensional look when the light is turned on during the night.

　　明洞天主圣堂的墙体由红、青两种颜色的砖块砌成——红砖传递出教堂的温暖气息;青砖则塑造出建筑的不同形态。两种砖协调统一，夜晚亮灯时，呈现出3D立体效果。照明设计的重点有：

　　-To put luminance on the best place in order to be recognized at a long distance and have a three-dimensional effect.

　　-To show the entrance symbolization and the harmony of dramatic light through the light from the inner stained glass.

　　-To display the light penetrates into the voluminous fa?ade and the beauty of its curves of Gothic.

　　-To consider the harmony with the nature light and artificial light of the back stained glass of the altar.

　　·把灯具安装在适当的位置，提高教堂在夜里的可见度，并打造其三维效果。

　　·灯光照射在独具特色的玻璃窗花上，形成一种迷人的戏剧感。

　　·灯光穿透庞大的立面，突出其哥特式弧线的美感。

　　·确保圣坛背后彩色玻璃的自然光和人工光的和谐统一。
