RULES
As the organizer of Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, the largest lighting exhibition in the world, Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., Ltd. shall hold the ALIGHTING AWARD selection. To standardize and specify relevant matters, operational processes and selection requirements, the regulation has been formulated.
1. Objectives:
1.1 To encourage technological innovation and product innovation in the lighting industry and promote scientific and technological progress in the lighting industry.
1.2 To enhance the international influence of the Alighting Award and promote the continuous development of the lighting industry.
1.3 To set up an example and model for outstanding projects, high quality products, innovative technologies and innovative designs, and advocate the concept of social value.
2. The awards included in the ALIGHTING AWARD selection are as follows:
2.1 Top 10 Products (for the lighting products of this year's exhibitors that have been mass-produced);
2.2 Top 10 Technologies (for the non-lighting products of this year's exhibitors that have been mass-produced or the exhibitors’ solutions);
2.3 Top 10 Projects (for the projects completed and accepted before April 2016);
2.4 Top 10 Designs (for the design works or conceptual designs of future lighting);
2.5 Voters’ Choice (the winner in the online voting for the shortlisted products, technologies, projects and designs)
3. Schedule of the ALIGHTING AWARD selection:
The selection is held annually. In accordance with the time when Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is held, it has been tentatively decided that the application, recommendation and selection are carried out from October to May of the next year. The selection results shall be announced and the award ceremony shall be held in June when Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is held. And the award-winners of the Alighting Award will be publicized from June to October.
4. Applicants participating in the ALIGHTING AWARD selection and the selection scope:
4.1 Product award applicants: Exhibitors of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition to be held. "Products" generally refer to the lighting that has been mass-produced and sold at the market.
The product selection is conducted in terms of innovativeness, practicability, economy and document service.
Innovativeness: Whether the technical indicators of a product have met the latest domestic and overseas standards and what innovative features it has will be assessed. For example, do the major parts of the product have the latest and most popular configuration? Have the main technical parameters and the nominal indicators met the latest industrial standards? Has the product received any award? Is the product patented? Has the product undergone any significant technical improvement, technological innovation, design innovation or other innovation?
Practicability: The practical value of a product and its humanized factors in its application will be assessed. For example, in terms of humanized design (Is it easy to install and operate? How is the workmanship and quality? Is the electromagnetic circuit safe? Has the product design met the design specifications?), what are the users’ comments? How is the compatibility of the product? Does the product support various standards?
Economy: The price/performance ratio, use cost and maintenance cost of the product; the product's expandability.
Document service: The quality and efficiency of the instruction books and technical manuals of a product as well as the level of service provided by the manufacturer will be assessed. (Are the documents illustrated and easy to understand? Is there specific description of all functions and components of the product? Is there any instruction on the repair? Is there any detailed guidance on the installation, disassembly and operation? How is the product warranty?)
4.2 Technology award applicants: Exhibitors of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition to be held. "Technologies" generally refer to the forward-looking and developmental technical ideas or solutions for planning and guiding product research, manufacture, application and development.
The technological selection is conducted in terms of innovativeness, practicability and economy.
Innovativeness: The innovative key points and features of a technology will be assessed. For example, has the technology received any award? Is the technology patented? In terms of the innovative key points in technology, is the new technology significant, practical and effective? In terms of the innovative key points in design, can the design be directly applied to real products? How are the design feature and originality if it is applied to the products? How are the innovative key points in other aspects? Is the technology forward-looking? Will it become a leading standard? Will it be the mainstream? Does it have an application prospect?
Practicability: The practical value and promotion potential of the technology will be assessed. For example, the independence and feasibility of the technology and whether there is any case of practical application will be assessed.
Economy: How much economic benefit the technology can produce will be assessed. For example, how much cost (the human resources and material resources invested to realize the technology) is needed to realize the technology? How much is the return on investment? (How long may it take to recoup the investment?)
4.3 Project award applicants: Design institutes and design companies with independent legal qualifications, colleges and universities, scientific research institutions, lighting engineering companies and the major project product providers. "Projects" refer to the lighting projects having been completed with no ownership dispute and having been put into use for more than three months.
The project selection is conducted in terms of design effect, innovativeness, energy saving, security and durability.
Design effect: Respect for the carrier (conforming to the carrier's property and expressing the relationship between different carrier elements), visual aesthetics (artistic and creative), visual comfort (free from glare, with reasonable contrast ratio, coordinating with the surroundings), consistency between the reality and the design effect.
Innovativeness: Whether the technical indicators of all the components of the project have met the latest domestic and overseas standards and the innovative features it has will be assessed. For example, do the major products of the project have the latest and most popular configuration? Have the main technical parameters and the nominal indicators met the latest industrial standards? Do the components have innovative points in technology, design or other aspects?
Energy saving: The use cost and maintenance cost of the project will be assessed. For example, does the project use highly efficient lighting? Does it apply hierarchical control of the effects? Has it met the latest national design standards? How much maintenance cost (cost of human resources, material resources and electricity) is needed for the project in service?
Security: The stability (stability and reliability of system operation), capability of accidental emergency management, restorability of the project and whether it can minimize losses will be assessed. For example, are the installation and maintenance convenient? What are the safety precautions for the facilities? What are the safety precautions for the operation with power on?
Durability: How long is the service life of the materials for the project? How long can more than 80% of the materials be in service without being replaced?
4.4 Design award applicants: Pure creative design lighting works exploring the innovative application of lighting with multiple light sources in various fields will be assessed. The works will be collected from designers and students all over the world, without any limitation on functions and forms
The design selection is conducted in terms of originality, design effect, innovativeness and commercial value.
Originality: The works must be designers' original works, in order to build an innovation atmosphere for lighting industrial design. Plagiarizing or copying others' design works is strictly prohibited.
Design effect: Practical considerations will be made on the entries in terms of their appearance design, functional design, structural design, etc.
Innovativeness: The innovative points and features of the design will be assessed. For example, in terms of the innovative points in technology, is the new technology significant, practical and effective? In terms of innovative points in design, can the design be directly applied to real products? How is the design feature and originality if it is applied to products? How are the innovative points in other aspects? Is the design forward-looking? Will it become a leading standard? Will it become the mainstream? Does it have an application prospect?
Commercial value: Factors such as whether the work has commercial value, whether it fits the market needs and its producibility, will be assessed.
4.5 Voters’ Choice: In order to expand the awards' influence and scope of interaction, one Voters’ Choice award will be given to one of the top 30 applicants in each of the four categories, namely product, technology, project and design. That is to say, four Voters’ Choice awards will be granted. The results will be decided by the industry insiders through online voting.
4.6 For those product or technology award applicants who are not the exhibitors of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition to be held, they need to be satisfied one of the following conditions:
1.The enterprises need to join the brand center of Alighting Mall.
2.The applicaitions need to obtain recommendations of more than ten judges in the Jury Committee.
5. Organizational leadership and implementing bodies of the ALIGHTING AWARD selection
The ALIGHTING AWARD selection results will be achieved through the deliberations and recommendations by the Jury Committee consisting of the organizer, experts and scholars in the industry, authorities, industry organizations or institutions, following the principles of science, authority, objectiveness and fairness and comprehensively evaluating various evaluation factors of the submitted materials, such as the advancement, originality, practicability, completeness and economy. According to the categories of awards, namely product, technology, project and design, the Jury Committee specially sets up several professional jury teams to undertake and carry out the appraisal and inspection; the secretariat of the organizing committee of the Alighting Award is responsible for the organization and implementation of the voting.
5.1 Jury Committee: Consisting of final judges and all the professional jury teams.
5.2 Professional jury team: Its members include representatives of the organizer and the cooperative institutions for the Alighting Award as well as the nominating committee members; the professional jury teams are randomly composed of some members of their respective teams.
5.3 Final judges: Including representatives of the organizer and the industrial celebrities specially invited by the organizer.
5.4 Nominating committee members: Elected from the winners of the last Alighting Award or composed of industry celebrities specially invited by the organizer.
5.5 Cooperative institutions: the industrial organizations or institutions specially invited by the organizer.
5.6 Secretariat of the organizing committee: Representatives of the undertakers and cooperative institutions.
6. Planning and coordination body of the ALIGHTING AWARD selection:
The specially established secretariat of the organizing committee is responsible for the coordination, planning, arrangement and implementation of specific working plan and implementation schemes for the ALIGHTING AWARD selection. The secretariat of the organizing committee consists of representatives of the organizing committee of Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, representatives of the undertakers (member units such as Southern Power Grid Guangya Academy of Lighting Research, www.alighitng.cn, www.alighting.com, Alighting Design and Alighting Market). As the coordination and working team during the ALIGHTING AWARD selection, the secretariat of the organizing committee is responsible for accepting all the consultations, queries and document materials relating to the appraisal and selection and providing explanations and replies.
1. Applicants can independently apply for participation in the ALIGHTING AWARD selection or the entities whose products, technologies, projects and designs have innovative features and typicality are recommended by the cooperative institutions and nominating committee members to participate in the selection. Application materials shall be submitted to the secretariat of the organizing committee for collection and examination within the stipulated time for each year's appraisal and selection. The secretariat of the organizing committee will submit those products, technologies, projects and designs with application materials conforming to regulations and requirements to the Jury Committee for professional appraisal.
2. In principle, the organizer will not accept the applications of projects which had applied for participation in the selection of the previous ALIGHTING AWARD and have not made obvious improvements or have no outstanding performance.
3. For application, relevant application forms shall be filled in and submitted online at www.alighitng.cn or offline according to the requirements. The following materials shall be provided and shall be as detailed as possible. Applicants should make sure the application materials are standardized, true and clear in content.

| 14 | Project award applicants need to provide the following materials: 1. Project completion and acceptance report; 2. Project quality assessment report; 3. More than 8 color photographs reflecting the full view and quality of key parts of the project or a video of the project's full view and quality (about 3 to 5 minutes), with clear image, complete composition and high observability, able to reflect the project's characteristics, technological content and quality level. Design award applicants need to provide the following materials: 1. One computer effect picture; 2. Design drawings; 3. Functional and structural drawing (including the dimensions); 4. Originality and technology description; 5. Brief introduction to the designer; 6. Market prospect anticipation report, etc.; 7. Hand drawings, etc. Notes: The submitted materials must meet the requirements including but not limited to the above requirements; please provide more relevant materials so as to present the submitted project more clearly. |

4、Any trickery is strictly prohibited during the application process. Application units will be disqualified for application if they are found to be unreal in the selection stage. If an application unit wins an award but is then discovered to be unreal, the award and title will be canceled, which will be notified and announced in the industry.
5. If applicants have confidentiality requirements for the submitted content, please clearly describe the requirements in the submitted materials. Meanwhile, all units and persons having access to the submitted materials must undertake the obligation of confidentiality for the content and matters of the projects strictly in accordance with the relevant requirements.
6. All materials submitted for the ALIGHTING AWARD selection will not be returned. The secretariat of the organizing committee will make use of the submitted materials to release special issues or make introductions to special topics.
1、The ALIGHTING AWARD selection is basically divided into three stages: initial review, review and final review.
2、Initial review: Based on the application forms and materials submitted by the applicants, the specially established secretariat of the organizing committee will choose some projects as the candidate projects for the four categories respectively.
3. Inspection: The applicants of the candidate projects will apply to the organizer for inviting the professional jury teams to inspect and comment the submitted projects and listen to the applicants' description of relevant conditions of the submitted projects; after the inspection, the professional jury teams will submit the inspection reports on the inspected objects to the secretariat of the organizing committee as reference for the review.
4. Review: After receiving all the candidate projects sorted out by the secretariat of the organizing committee (including the inspection opinions of the professional jury teams), all members of the professional jury team will confirm the vote of each application category within a designated time in accordance with the review criteria (10 items can be selected in each category, and the selected items cannot exceed the total number for the category; that is, the number of the selected items for each category, namely product, technology, project and design, cannot exceed 10). The secretariat of the organizing committee is responsible for collecting the results of each category and submitting the top 30 items in each category according to the voting results as Outstanding Products, Outstanding Technologies, Outstanding Projects and Outstanding Designs (each of the items with the same vote should occupy one place) for final review.
5. Final review: According to the professional jury team's appraisal opinions and recommendations on the entries, seven final judges of the Jury Committee will decide winners of the Alighting Award, namely Top 10 Products, Top 10 Technologies, Top 10 Projects and Top 10 Designs, which will be announced and introduced to the all sectors of society by the secretariat of the organizing committee. Selected from the top 30 entries of each category respectively, the items with most online votes will win the Voters’ Choice awards.
1. Results of the ALIGHTING AWARD selection will be announced and the award ceremony will be held during Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition which is held annually. All the winning products, technologies, projects and designs will receive the trophy cups and honor certificates given by the organizer of the ALIGHTING AWARD.
2. After all the selection work is completed, the secretariat of the organizing committee of the Alighting Award will be responsible for editing and publishing the ALIGHTING AWARD Yearbook. As one of the authoritative and official forms of issuing the winning projects and other submitted projects in the ALIGHTING AWARD selection, the collection will be used to publish , publicize and popularize the winning projects as well as the selection experts' assessment and analysis.

The ALIGHTING AWARD selection is initiated by Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, organized by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co., Ltd. and undertaken by Southern Power Grid Guangya Academy of Lighting Research, www.alighitng.cn, www.alighting.com, Alighting Design and Alighting Market.
2. The regulation is formulated and amended by the secretariat of the organizing committee of the Alighting Award which is responsible for the explanation.
3. The regulation takes effect as of the date of promulgation.
